Available to desperate mothers. This is a safer way of abandoning a baby, as opposed to putting it in a black plastic bag or down a drain.

The baby safe is a metal box, with a door on both sides. When a mother cannot take care of her baby and does not want the child, she can place it in the box (safe). As soon as she places the baby in the safe, there is a pressure plate inside, the safe registers that there is a baby in the safe and will call my phone.
The safe locks, so no one can take the baby out on that side. I then have to call the safe back, so that it will know I am aware of the baby.

I have 3 mins to take the baby out.

The next step is to alert the police, who will take the child to Dora Nginza Hospital to be examined. The Social Worker at the hospital will make arrangements to place the child at a safe home. If Thand’usana has a space, the child will come to us, if we don’t, then the child will be placed elsewhere.

On 9 June 2019, we dedicated our baby safe at Thand’usana Babies Safe Home! The dedication was done by Rev. Rowan Rogers and Rev. John Gillmer who blessed the receiving side and the side the baby would be placed in the Safe.

We pray for the mothers, who will have to go through heartbreak and pain, as it must be a difficult decision to make, may they find peace.
We pray that God will send his Angels to watch over this safe and give us the strength needed to do his will.
